Solar Supplies Nearly 100% of Electrical Needs For a Smaller Carbon Footprint and Big Savings
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
South Hackensack, NJ — July 24, 2020
— As an early adopter of renewable energy in automotive retailing and wholesaling, automotive supply, equipment and services provider Wholesale Auto Supply Co. (WASCO) has gone green, with the installation of a 125-panel rooftop solar energy system that went online July 18, 2020.
“What this shows to our stockholders and our customers is that being green and helping the environment also helps our bottom line and increases the amount we can return to our shareholders,” says CEO Andrea Karsian.
The approximately $130,500 investment will generate 98.6% of the electrical needs of the company’s 30,000-square-foot headquarters facility in South Hackensack, N.J. An independent audit found that the solar installation will save $422,105 in energy costs over a 30-year span. In the first year alone, WASCO will realize more than $9,000 in savings, an amount that will climb to more than $20,000 annually after 30 years.
“By taking control of its energy expenditures and investing in solar energy generation equipment, WASCO is proactively hedging against rising energy costs, Karsian says. “Because we’re generating our own power, we will be able to reduce our expenses and our energy consumption,” she says.
But the commitment to a smaller carbon footprint is about more than saving money, Karsian says. WASCO’s switch to renewable energy demonstrates the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint — and showing the automotive retail and wholesale industry that working towards carbon-neutrality is an achievable goal.
“We are reducing our carbon footprint and saving money for our stockholders, but more than that, we hope to be a role model,” Karsian says. “We want to show our dealers that not only is this doable, but it can be a really smart financial investment.”
