Each year on April 22, we commemorate the protection of our environment by celebrating Earth Day and helping to prevent the coming disasters of climate change & environmental destruction.
However, reducing our overall carbon footprint is a mission that we need to dedicate time & resources to fulfilling each day. And we proudly do so along with our car dealer partners.
With that being said, here are a few things that are currently being done by car dealers to help save our planet.
1. Recycling
The phrase “reuse, reduce, recycle” has been a mantra for environmental friendliness for decades. Car dealers are learning more each day how to better recycle to help reduce the quantity of trash that goes into landfills.
One key way that dealers can help further reduce our planet’s carbon footprint is through the use of recycling kits for their lamps. Showrooms typically use fluorescent lighting tubes and there are plenty of recycling kit options that can be purchased to help properly reuse the materials once they stop illuminating.
2. Using Green Cleaners
Cleaning up the environment is both a figurative and literal undertaking. And because of the coronavirus, cleaning has become even more of a priority with the need to frequently disinfect spaces everywhere including at car dealers.
And car dealers can be messy places, especially in the service area where oil and other viscous fluids are always being used. Choosing non-toxic & biodegradable cleaner brands like Spray Nine and Simple Green means dealers can cut through the grease & grime they encounter while being more friendly to the environment & employees.
3. Installing Solar Panels
Many businesses and residences have been cleaning up their energy by having solar panels put in, including us here at WASCO. Car dealers are no different and they get solar panels installed on their rooftops and/or carports in order to drive their renewable energy initiatives.
Solar panels take energy from the sun and convert it into power, which lowers the need for standard electricity and decreases energy costs significantly over a period of 30 years. You can read all about WASCO’s 125-panel rooftop solar energy system and the calculated savings it will provide here.
4. Selling Electric Vehicles
For as long as we can remember, gasoline has been what fuels automobiles. Many car manufacturers are starting the process of converting their lineup of vehicles from all gas-run models to ones that can be powered by electricity and batteries. It’s even the goal for some automakers to convert their entire lineup into EVs.
There are several hybrids (a combination of a gas engine & a battery), plug-in hybrids (a similar combination with a larger battery that can be charged via an outlet) and zero-emissions electric vehicles (only run on a battery and can plug into the wall to charge) already on the market. But one thing rings true: more EVs will be debuting over the next few years.
